Apple Pie

Does anything taste quite as good as warm apple pie?

Yield about 8 servings
Time 1½ hours
Tools
  • pie plate
  • knife
  • apple peeler
  • 2 bowls
  • wooden spoon
  • fork
Ingredients
  • 1 pie crust made with butter or oil
  • 6 c tart apples, peeled and thinly sliced
  • 1/3 c sugar
  • ½ t cinnamon
  • ½ t nutmeg
  • 3 T flour
  • 2 t lemon juice
  • ½ c brown sugar
  • 3 T butter, softened
Directions Preheat the oven to 450°.

Roll out the pie crust and arrange in the pie plate.

Put the sliced apples into a large bowl.

Mix the sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and 1 T of flour in another bowl, then sprinkle over the apples. Toss until the slices are coated, sprinkle with lemon juice, and toss again. Pour into the pie crust.

Blend the brown sugar, butter, and the other 2 T of flour with a fork. Sprinkle over the apples.

Bake for 10 minutes, lower heat to 350°, and bake another 45 minutes, until the crust is golden brown.

Notes This apple pie is heavenly topped with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream.
