Easy recipe for a tangy barbecue sauce.
Yield: about 1½ cups
Time: 40 minutes
Tools
- Wok or large saucepan
- Wooden spoon
Ingredients
- 2 T sesame oil
- ½ c onion, diced
- ½ c tomato sauce or ketchup
- ¼ c balsamic vinegar
- 3 T Dijon mustard
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 T soy sauce
- 2 t molasses or maple syrup
- 1 t smoked salt
- ½ t pepper
Directions
Heat the oil over medium heat, add onions, and sauté until golden brown, about 5 minutes.
Stir in remaining ingredients and simmer, stirring frequently, for 30 minutes. Add a bit of water as needed to keep it from getting too thick.
Notes
The sauce will develop more flavor if you leave it in the fridge for a few days, but it’s terrific when freshly made, too.
This barbecue sauce is excellent over fried tofu and fried tempeh.
Also try Fruity BBQ sauce.
