Jewish Recipes
Jewish cuisine includes a lot of root vegetables, dairy products, fried
foods, and, for certain holidays, unleavened breads.
Applesauce Sure you could just buy it at the store, but homemade applesauce is one of the
all-time great treats.
Borscht Beet borscht is a traditional cold vegetarian soup common in Russian, Ukrainian, and Jewish cooking.
Cascadilla This dairy-based, traditional Jewish soup is light and refreshing.
Cheese Blintzes Although I've seen menus with various kinds of fruit blintzes listed, for me
cheese blintzes are the only option. The creamy cheese filling complements the
warm crêpe so nicely, I can't imagine filling it with anything else.
Cheese Fritters Eat these wonderful crunchy cheese fritters as soon as possible after they are cooked.
Israeli Couscous Salad A mix of Israeli couscous, lentils, bell peppers, dates, and mint makes a
subtle, refreshing salad.
Israeli Salad A mixture of finely diced vegetables served with a tart dressing.
Israeli Za'atar Salad Fresh vegetables tossed with sesame and sumac make a unique salad.
Kosher Defined Kosher is not synonymous with vegetarian.
Matzo Balls Matzo balls (also spelled matzoh) are a traditional Jewish dumpling, usually made with chicken fat
and served in chicken soup. This vegetarian version tastes great in vegetable
soup.
Noodle Kugel Kugel is a traditional Jewish side dish that is usually slightly sweet but is
served as a side dish, rather than a dessert.
Poppyseed Cookies Delicious, not-too-sweet cookies filled with poppyseeds.
Potato Pancakes / Latkes Potato pancakes, or latkes, are a Jewish dish traditionally served at
Hanukkah. Whether you're Jewish or not, crispy potato pancakes are delicious at
breakfast and brunch.
