Directions | Combine oats, milk or water, and salt in the saucepan and bring to a boil. Stir, cover, and reduce heat to a simmer (for rolled oats) or a medium boil (steel-cut oats) and cook until tender. |
Notes | Milk can burn if the heat is too high, so keep an eye on the oatmeal, especially if using steel-cut oats. Or you can use a double boiler, though the oats will take longer to cook.
