Barbecued Tofu

One of the things I miss most as a veggie is barbecue sauce, since it’s typically eaten with steak or ribs. What can a vegetarian eat barbecue sauce with? Fried tofu! BBQ tofu
Yield 2-4 servings
Time 45 minutes
Tools
  • Colander
  • Kitchen or paper towels
  • Knife
  • Large frying pan
  • Spatula
Ingredients
  • 1 pound extra-firm tofu, sliced into ½-inch pieces and pressed
  • 3 T vegetable oil
  • 1-1½ c barbecue sauce
Directions Heat the oil in the frying pan, add the tofu slices, and fry until golden brown, 3-5 minutes. Flip and repeat.

Pour the barbecue sauce into the pan and stir so that each tofu slice is coated. Turn off heat and let marinate for 30 minutes.

BBQ tofu is delicious at any temperature. You can

  1. Eat it now, while it’s lukewarm.
  2. Reheat the tofu in the bbq sauce for 5-10 minutes and eat it hot.
  3. Put the tofu/bbq sauce in the fridge until you’re ready to eat it cold.
Notes Serve with rice or quinoa, or make barbecued tofu sandwiches.

Now this looks good. I did this with Jack’s hot sauce and covered it and it tasted like chicken. So, I can’t wait to give this a try! Great recipe!
