vegetarian Dessert Recipes

99% of dessert recipes are naturally safe for ovo-lacto vegetarians and there's no shortage of vegan desserts either, so I suppose this section isn't absolutely necessary. I think most of us love dessert, though, so here are a few of my favorite sweets.

Almond Cookies
Almond cookies from China (and some Chinese restaurants) are light and crispy.

Apple Pie
Autumn is just around the corner, and I can't think of a better way to welcome it than with a homemade apple pie.

Applesauce
Sure you could just buy it at the store, but homemade applesauce is one of the all-time great treats.

Apricot Cherry Compote
It's easy to make compote: just stew up some dried fruit and enjoy it with dessert.

Apricot-Nut Bread
This is a lovely, slightly sweet bread - great for breakfast or dessert.

Apricot-Strawberry Cobbler
I love fruit cobblers, and apricots and strawberries make a particularly nice combination.

Banana Bread
A good way to use up overripe bananas and great as breakfast or a snack.

Banana Pineapple Sorbet
A cool recipe with tropical flavor.

Raw for DessertBanana Treat
Simple, delicious, and very refreshing: frozen banana puréed into something that's quite like ice cream, without the dairy and calories.

Berry Cobbler
This is one of my favorite desserts of all time. It's also lovely with a cup of tea for breakfast or a mid-afternoon snack.

Berry Shake
A small serving of this fresh berry shake is delightful after a filling lunch.

Bread Pudding
Simple bread pudding is the ultimate in comfort food, not to mention a great way to use up stale bread.

Brownies
The ultimate treat for chocolate lovers.

Vegan Cupcakes Take Over the WorldCashew Cardamom Cupcakes
Cashew butter frosting on top of little cashew butter cakes... how can you go wrong?

Chocolate Chip Cookies
Delicious and not too sweet. My husband keeps them in the freezer, where they get cold but don't really freeze. They are lovely with a cup of tea.

Chocolate Hazelnut Cookies
Crispy, sweet, delicious vegan cookies!

Chocolate Malt
There's nothing like a rich, chocolately malt. Beware - this is not for the calorie conscious!

Chocolate Mocha Cake
I developed this recipe with a friend about 10 years ago. It's extremely rich and fattening, but well worth every calorie.

Chocolate Mousse
This has got to be one of the easiest and most delicious desserts that exists. Many chocolate mousse recipes call for gelatin; not this one!

Chocolate-Nut Candies
These delicious chocolate-nut candies are easy to make and will keep for two weeks (if they last that long!)

Chocolate Peanut Butter Cake
A delicious, rich, warm chocolate cake with a hint of peanut butter that tastes even better when served with berry sauce and/or vanilla ice cream.

Chocolate Peanut Butter Shake
Try this vegan chocolate peanut butter shake for a sweet and yummy treat.

Chocolate Pudding
A rich, creamy, and extremely chocolatey pudding. It's got some calories, but it's worth it! There's also a frozen chocolate pudding variation.

Chocolate Pudding Cake
This interesting chocolate pudding cake has numerous good points: it's low in fat, potentially vegan, easy to make with kids, and delicious too.

Sweet UtopiaCookbooks
When you're in the mood for something sweet, one of these great dessert cookbooks is sure to have something to hit your sweet spot.

Cranberry-Nut Bread
A sweet-tart bread that is equally good for dessert, tea, or breakfast.

Cranberry Tart
I don't know about the rest of the world, but in the United States, November is cranberry season. Cranberry sauce usually has pride of place at the Thanksgiving table, but here's another tasty way to enjoy cranberries.

Crêpes
Crêpes are thin pancakes that can be wrapped around just about anything to turn it into an elegant meal, or just folded and topped with something yummy. Try some of these fillings and toppings, or experiment to invent your own.

Frozen Anisette Soufflé
Frozen soufflés make a nice, light dessert after a rich meal. This recipe calls for anise-flavored liqueur, but you could use another flavor like orange or hazelnut instead.

Fruit Salad
There's nothing like a bowl of fresh, sweet fruit salad in the summer. No one really needs a recipe for fruit salad, but here are some ideas to get you started.

Ginger-Brandy Cheesecake
Sweet, rich cheesecake with a ginger snap crust and orange glaze.

Gingerbread
Moist and spicy, gingerbread is a perfect Christmas treat.

Independence Fruit Salad
As an American, red, white, and blue make me think of independence day and patriotism, so that's what I'm calling this multi-colored fruit salad. The colors work for the UK and France too!

Lemon Mousse
Light and tangy; perfect after a heavy, rich, or spicy meal.

Mincemeat
Make a big batch of vegetarian mincemeat so that you can make a few pies and have some left over to serve with ice cream, custard, pudding, or crêpes. You can also can or freeze it for later.

Noodle Kugel
Kugel is a traditional Jewish side dish that is usually slightly sweet but is served as a side dish, rather than a dessert.

Ani's Raw Food DessertsOrange Sorbet
Light, refreshing, and 100% vegan. Can be made with lemons or berries too.

You can make sweet and refreshing peach sorbet without an ice cream machine.

Pecan Pie
The richest and most delicious pecan pie you'll ever taste.

Pie Crust
This flaky crust works well for quiche and just about any kind of pie.

Plum pudding is a traditional Christmas dessert in the UK, and is normally made with suet. Julia Child's version shows that there's no reason plum pudding can't be vegetarian.

Vegan Pie Crust
This pie crust is made with oil, but is just as tender and flaky as a more traditional butter crust.

Zabaglione Sauce
Zabaglione sauce, also called zabaione sauce, is a sweet, thick sauce that is wonderful with plum pudding and French toast.

Zucchini Chocolate Cake
I have no idea why zucchini and chocolate go well together, but they do, especially in this easy cake.
