vegetarian Bread and Grain Recipes

Here are the various breads and grain recipes currently available on this site.

Apricot-Nut Bread
This is a lovely, slightly sweet bread - great for breakfast or dessert.

Banana Bread
A good way to use up overripe bananas and great as breakfast or a snack.

Bran Muffins
Here is a simple recipe for bran muffins - a delicious and very healthy breakfast item.

Bread Crumbs
Bread crumbs, or chapelure, as they're called in French, are available at the store, but there's really no need to buy them when you can quickly, easily, and cheaply make them yourself.

Bread Pudding
Simple bread pudding is the ultimate in comfort food, not to mention a great way to use up stale bread.

Buttermilk Biscuits
There's nothing quite like buttermilk biscuits hot out of the oven.

Buttermilk Coffee Cake
Recipe for a sweet and simple coffee cake with fruit and nuts.

Cheese Croutons
These warm and bubbly croutons go equally well with soup and salad.

Cheese Muffins
Try these dinner muffins with warm, gooey cheese inside with soup and salad.

Cheesy Grits
Whether you serve them straight up or fried, cheesy grits make a great addition to breakfast or brunch.

Corn Bread
Hot corn bread is absolutely delicious topped with butter or cream cheese.

Cranberry-Nut Bread
A sweet-tart bread that is equally good for dessert, tea, or breakfast.

Crêpe Batter
Crêpes, or thin pancakes, can be wrapped around just about anything to turn it into an elegant meal.

Croutons
Homemade croutons are a snap to make!

Dinner Rolls
I find that the nicest meals are always nicer with some bread in my hand, preferably warm from the oven. We don't have a nice bakery nearby, so I have to make my own rolls, and this is the simplest recipe I've found.

Flour Tortillas
These flour tortillas are quick and easy, but don't skimp on the "resting" times - they are the key to soft, pliable tortillas.

Fresh Pasta
Making fresh pasta takes less than an hour and you can't beat it for taste and texture. Kids will love the different color possibilities.

Garlic Bread
I eat bread with nearly every meal, especially soup, salad, and pasta (obviously I'm not a low-carb diet fan). Plain French or Italian bread is wonderful, but nice hot garlic bread can be a real treat.

Gingerbread
Moist and spicy, gingerbread is a perfect Christmas treat.

Granola
This crunchy granola has enough protein and fiber to get you through the whole day!

Naan Bread
Naan is a traditional Indian flat bread. The delicious bread is well worth the time and effort it takes to prepare.

Oatmeal
Oatmeal is one of the great breakfasts - not only is it packed with nutrients, it's also easy to cook and can be customized to your heart's content.

Panzanella
Panzanella is a bread and vegetable salad from Tuscany. It's a pretty flexible recipe, as long as you have the two most important ingredients: very ripe tomatoes and day-old, good country bread.

Pie Crust
This flaky crust works well for quiche and just about any kind of pie.

Pita Bread
This pocket bread, popular in Greece, Lebanon, and many Arab countries, is great for filled sandwiches or with dips.

Pizza Dough
Pizza dough may sound daunting, but actually, it's nothing special - just bread dough with some olive oil.

Polenta
Polenta is a thick cornmeal mush served as a side dish to stew, or topped with vegetables, sauce, and/or cheese.

Popovers
Recipe for popovers, perhaps the simplest and quickest way to enjoy fresh bread hot from the oven.

Quinoa
Quinoa, a seed that is used like a grain, is a complete protein, has more calcium than milk, and is both delicious and easy to prepare.

Raspberry Nut Muffins
Raspberries and nuts make a sweet breakfast treat.

Rosemary Focaccia
Rosemary focaccia, from Italy, is one of my favorite breads in the world, and the hardest part of this recipe is waiting for the dough to rise.

Stuffing
Stuffing doesn't have to be cooked inside a turkey - this vegetarian bread stuffing with apples and walnuts is delicious baked as a casserole.

Sun-Dried Tomato Bread
If you love sun-dried tomatoes and sourdough bread, give this quick and easy sourdough-like sun-dried tomato bread a try.

Sweet Potato Muffins
A great way to start the day.

Tabouli
Tabouli, sometimes spelled tabbouleh or tabouleh, is a cold Lebanese salad made with bulgar wheat, lemon, garlic, tomatoes, mint, and parsley.

Vegan Pie Crust
This pie crust is made with oil, but is just as tender and flaky as a more traditional butter crust.
